If you have not already looked into garlic, learning these 24 Top Health Benefits Of Raw Garlic may have you adding it more to your diet than you ever have before.
In our house, we already use garlic and onions quite a bit. In the fall and winter seasons though, we will use them A LOT more! The health benefits of garlic are some of the absolute best home remedies you can have in your home.
Before we get into this, I want to share from one of my favorite home remedy books a quote. Be Your Own Doctor by: Rachel Weaver I highly recommend this book because SO much of this information has helped us get through and rebuild our immune systems in the process of healing from many different things.
Of course, as always, not everything works the same way for everyone. So always use your best-informed judgment and research before making any decisions. That being said let’s get to this quote that I think is EXTREMELY beneficial information for you to read.
“Garlic – The Natural Antibiotic”
“The Medicinal Qualities Of Garlic. There are two main medicinal ingredients which produce garlic health benefits: allicin and diallyl sulphides. Allicin does not occur in “ordinary” garlic, it is produced when garlic is finely chopped or crushed. The finer the chopping and the more intensive the crushing, the more allicin is generated and the stronger the medicinal effect.
Until 1942 when penicillin was made, doctors routinely used garlic to kill viruses, bacteria, and fungus. Garlic formed the principal ingredient in the ‘Four Thieves Vinegar,’ which was used so successfully in Marseilles for protection against the plague when it prevailed there in 1722.
The active properties of garlic depend on the pungent, volatile, and essential oil, which may readily be obtained by distillation with water. It is a sulphide of the radical allyl, present in all the onion family. This oil is rich in sulfur but contains no oxygen. The peculiar penetration odor of garlic is due to this intensely smelling sulphate of allyl, and is so diffusive that even when the bulb is applied to the soles of the feet, its odor is exhaled by the lungs.” Be Your Own Doctor by: Rachel Weaver
The benefits of garlic cloves, and even some but, NOT ALL well-made garlic supplements definitely are worth one’s time looking into it, and possibly adding it to your home remedy cabinet for sure!

FAQs:
What black garlic?
“Black garlic contains more antioxidants than regular garlic. It also has more of a compound called S-Allylcysteine (SAC). SAC helps the body to absorb allicin. With a greater concentration, black garlic may be more effective at helping your body get the benefits that allicin provides.” Health Benefits Of Black Garlic
How to get aged black garlic – “Black garlic can be found on menus everywhere, but this unique ingredient isn’t anything new. It has been used for flavor and traditional medicinal purposes and in a variety of Asian cuisines for centuries. Black garlic is, simply put, the product of aging regular garlic bulbs over the course of weeks or months, a process called the Maillard reaction. It requires strictly regulated temperature and humidity to achieve its sticky consistency.
With a softer, molasses-like flavor, it is a more delicate option than the raw bulb. What’s the best part? It’s versatile and can be swapped out for regular garlic in most recipes. It is a beautiful addition to any cheese plate, bruschetta, chicken dishes, or even as a pizza topper. It also gives that extra something to a homemade vinaigrette. Keep in mind that its flavor is milder, so we recommend, as always, to taste as you add.
The process of making black garlic is less difficult than it is long. It can be aged for up to 60 days but will be ready to use after three weeks.
There are quite a few DIY methods, but the best approach without additional kitchenware is to age your bulbs in a slow cooker or rice cooker. The process is easy but takes patience to achieve that supersweet result.” Black Garlic Recipe
Are there any side effects of garlic?
Too much of anything can have not-so-fun side effects. For garlic, you will get bad breath… If you consume too much and can also cause heartburn, gas, and diarrhea. Thankfully, I can safely say, our family has yet to experience any of the side effects except the bad breath from consuming it raw.
Which is best to take, fresh garlic or a garlic supplement?
The absolute best way to consume garlic is to eat it crushed and raw. However, if you can get your hands on some good supplements, it definitely could be better than nothing… Again, though, it is not as good as just buying a good organic garlic from the store and crushing it.
