The Best Healthy Whole Grain Muffins are the only banana muffins I have made in my kitchen for over the last 10 years.
Why do something else when you find a recipe that is literally perfect in both taste, texture, and health?
This is one of my husband’s family recipes, so I have to give them credit for these moist banana muffins.
What kind of whole grains do you use in this recipe?
Thankfully, this healthy whole wheat banana muffins recipe is very forgiving. You can use regular whole wheat flour of choice… For me, I will either use hard white whole wheat flour or soft white whole whole-wheat flour.
Really, I have found with this recipe, just use what you have on hand and then settle on your favorite whole grain flour to bake with once you find it.
Note: I have never found it necessary to use half whole wheat flour and half all purpose flour. I know there are a lot of recipes out there that call for half and half, but in all the whole grain recipes you find on dearmark23.com, we use whole grains in every recipe.
Can you add chocolate chips?
You can most certainly add a 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to this recipe if that is what you love
What kind of nuts can you add to this recipe?
When we add nuts to these delicious muffins, our preferred nuts are soft nuts like walnuts and pecans. Feel free to experiment though, if you have a nut you like better and think would taste good, add it to your muffin batter!

What kind of can I use?
This is a healthy banana muffin recipe so any seed oils, canola oil, and highly processed oils don’t get used. We prefer the avocado oil, however, we have also substituted it with olive oil! Both of those oils have tasted really good.
Can you substitute the honey with other natural sweeteners?
Honey, I feel helps make this recipe. That being said, you can substitute with maple syrup or coconut sugar. If you have healthy brown sugar, you can add that too… To keep it healthy, do your best to stay away from super refined sugar.
Does it change the taste if you eliminate the cinnamon?
Maybe a little, but if you want to skip the cinnamon it will not hurt anything, we just prefer it…
How ripe should the bananas be for this healthy whole wheat banana recipe?
Overripe bananas that you know are not bad, are the absolute best in this delicious recipe. That being said, as long as your bananas are not green and at the very least yellow, they will work.
