Here is my favorite Apple Crisp Recipe and YES, It is healthy!

I feel like, whole foods when mixed right, there is nothing that beats the taste. The mixture of butter, cinnamon, coconut sugar, tossed with rolled oats, and whole grain flour… All mixed up and paired with fresh apple slices and baked to perfection!

Does that not scream fall? Or shout, the cozy months are upon us?

In our house, apple season says loud and clear every single year. that baking season is here!

Coconut Sugar

Before I share the recipe, I want to share why I LOVE using coconut sugar in this recipe. It replaces brown sugar in a lot of my recipes actually.

I love the caramel flavor it gives to almost any baked treat it finds itself in..

While I am not one of those who will swear by any one ingredient. I discovered coconut sugar about four years ago. I add it to many of our baked goods, but definitely not all of them.

However, here are some of the benefits I found intriguing…

  • Coconut sugar is known to contain minerals such as iron, zinc, and calcium which those things can support healthy bones.
  • It is considered a raw sugar because it is just dehydrated coconut sap, which means it contains all the healthy antioxidants found in the original source.
  • It contains Vitamin C. which supports the immune system

The list goes on and I share more on Coconut Sugar, in our whole food ingredient index under Coconut Sugar vs. Brown Sugar.

Apples To Use In Best Apple Crisp

What kind of apples work in apple crisp?

I have used red and green apples. My personal favorite is the granny smith green and honestly that seems to be a popular opinion for apple crisp in general.

Basically you just want an apple that is pretty tart.

Honey Crisp also taste amazing too. However because they are not super budget friendly, at least around here. I usually choose the lesser expensive apple.

That being said, I have used all sorts of apples, sometimes if I have an over abundance that needs to be used, well that that “needing to be used apple” just takes up residents in this Best Healthy Apple Crisp Recipe
