Here are my 6 best tips for how to eat healthy on a budget.
In a world where food is skyrocketing in the price department, it may be easy to get discouraged. One may even be tempted to just toss health aside for the sake of being frugal.
But heres the truth…

You WILL be spending your money in one of these two places…
- Healthy groceries or….
- Hefty hospital bills
Right now, we have a choice, continue to buy healthier whole foods to fuel our bodies, or to buy “food” that is not real and will only deplete our health, because it’s cheaper…

Tip Number One-STOP BUYING FROM PLACES LIKE WHOLE FOODS
Sit down for this one….
STOP buying from Whole Foods and places like them! They are SO overpriced its a joke! Nothing against them, but their prices are just beyond me. Even if you are the richest person in the world, I promise you, you could find a better deal than what they offer.
Tip Number Two- BUY IN BULK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
Buy in bulk, this will save you loads of money in the long run. The upfront bill can feel a little daunting, I know, but it pays off.
And if you don’t want to take care of the bill yourself.. Find some friends willing to split stuff with you, and all go in on it together. It will save you SO much money. I find this especially true with grains, herbs, and teas.
Here is a list of places you can buy in bulk from
Misfits is also a great place to buy your weekly produce. It imperfect and overstocked produce at a discounted price.
Tip Number Three- USE STAPLE FILLER FOODS
Enter rice and potatoes! Make sure these are organic! I like to keep these around and even pre made and prepackaged for quick use.
Subscribe to dearmark23.com and you will get my Free Ebook with how I do this, plus My 5 Quickest Budget Friendly Whole Food Skillet Recipes.
You will want this ebook, it has saved me a lot when I run into dinner time, and didn’t think ahead that day.
Remember to always, anchor your meals in a good protein source, it keeps you fuller longer. Bring those carbs and veggies in to fill and compliment the protein.
Tip Number Four- SIMPLIFY YOUR INGREDIENTS
Okay, I am NOT at all against special ingredients, I own a few myself and I love them for those occasions that I just want well, something speical
However, I have learned over the years that the most basic ingredients makes some of the most AMAZING meals, here’s why.
- It’s sustainable
- Just mixing the right spices is really what makes a whole food budget friendly recipe SO good
- It cost WAY less.
- Yes, it may taste a little different than the original recipe you are following, but seriously it is definitely not enough to write home about.
- It makes it easier to shop, especially if you are a bulk shopper.
Some of us have to use supplements, but try your best if you know you are low on something, to get more of it through your whole foods, it will make a difference and you may find on some things that you don’t have to sub as much.
Tip Number Five-STOP BUYING SNACKS
For the love of all happiness. I love a good well made snack, however, very rarely will you see my kitchen stocked with what I will affectionately call the “Trinket Food”. (Also known as mini packaged snacks.) It’s just over priced! As I go forward with dearmark23.com, I will be sharing some of my favorite budget friendly whole food snacks, which if I am completely honest is a lot of delicious sweet treats.
For the most part though, I buy fruit and veggies for the snacks around here.
How do my kids eat it and not complain, one may ask?
I just don’t provide any other options, they just learn to pick their favorites or what they are craving from the options we have.

Tip Number Six-BUY LOCAL AS MUCH AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN
This may be on of my very favorite tips, because it means you are supporting your neigbors.
This is the food chain process for most Americas. It starts at the farm, from the farm it gets delivered to to processing center, from the processing center, it gets delivered to the packaging center. It then gets delivered to the distribution center, which then gets delivered to your grocery store, which then lands up on your table..
Like, that is A LOT of middle men! A lot of money going out, just to get a piece of chicken on your plate at night.
When you buy local, not only are you supporting people in your own community, you are able to talk with them about their process, and how they are treating and growing your whole food ingredients! There are SO many wins to buying local!
Best part, it’s just one transaction for you! Farm to your table.
