I recently took a poll on my Instagram account for the 12 Best Herbal Tinctures That Your Everyday Mom Recommends!
This is a post all the tried and true tinctures and it is all in one place!
I have really wanted to be able to put together a list from everyday moms, who have tried the herbal tinctures or cough syrups and have had amazing success with them, rather than having ads from companies tossed at you where you are left to figure out what works or not on your own dime.
So, without further ado… Let’s get right on the list!
#1 Goldenseal
Goldenseal is known for its antibacterial and inflammatory properties. It can be taken to prevent or treat upper respiratory tract infections.
Natural Antibiotic & Immune System Booster
“Goldenseal is often found in herbal remedies for allergies, colds, and the flu because of its natural antibiotic and immune-boosting capabilities. Scientific research suggests that medicinal plants like goldenseal and echinacea may enhance immune function by increasing antigen-specific antibody production. A product containing goldenseal and echinacea is an awesome natural bronchitis remedy.”

#2 Frankincense
Now, I know this is not a tincture however, it is one that got recommended on multiple occasions, so it made it to this list!
As one of the oldest known essential oils, frankincense has incredible antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties, which can drastically shorten colds and flu.
Frankincense can greatly calm coughs and stubborn respiratory infections. The essential oil also has a very calming smell that can relax when diffused.
With its anti-inflammatory effects, it is also really good for relieving asthma symptoms.
#3 Myrrh
Another one that is not a tincture, but like frankincense can be added to a tincture or just be defused.
Here is what it can do for you!
- Kills Harmful Bacteria
- May Support Oral Health
- Supports Skin Health and May Help Heal Sores
- Combats Pain and Swelling
- May Be a Powerful Antioxidant
- Kills Some Parasites
- Simple to Use

11 Surprising Benefits and Uses For Myrrh
According to Dr. Axe, Myrrh is a “Potent Antioxidant A 2010 animal-based study in the Journal of Food and Chemical Toxicology found that myrrh could protect against liver damage in rabbits due to its high antioxidant capacity. There may be some potential for uses in humans also.” Also, Myrrh is known to be “Antibacterial and Antifungal Benefits Historically, myrrh was used to treat wounds and prevent infections. It can still be used in this manner on minor fungal irritations, such as athlete’s foot, bad breath, ringworm (all of which can be caused by candida), and acne. Myrrh oil can help fight certain types of bacteria as well. For example, it seems in lab studies to be potent against S. aureus infections (staph). The antibacterial properties of myrrh oil seem to be amplified when it’s used along with frankincense oil, another popular biblical oil.”

#4 Echinacea
Echinacea also known as coneflower is one of my favorite medicinal herbs to use… During flu season or when sore throats start to hit in our home echinacea is one of our first go-to herbs to boost immunity in our bodies.
Another great resource put out by Dr. Axe:
Echinacea is known to “Boosts the Immune System
How does echinacea help with treating the common cold? Published in the journal Lancet Infectious Diseases, the University of Connecticut performed a meta-analysis study that evaluated the effects of echinacea using 14 studies.
It was determined that:
- Echinacea can reduce the chances of catching a common cold by 58 percent.
- Echinacea reduces the duration of the common cold by almost 1.5 days.
Craig Coleman, assistant professor of pharmacy practice and lead author of the study, added that “The take-home message from our study is that echinacea does indeed have powerful cold prevention and cold treatment benefits.”
This is exactly why echinacea products are one of several effective remedies for preventing and treating colds.”

The health benefits of echinacea definitely make it worthwhile to have it on hand this time of year. I especially love the tincture Echinacea Astragals for kids which I will share below. It is one of the best defense tinctures for little short people.
#5 Elderberry
Oh, elderberry, who doesn’t love elderberry?
I make elderberry syrup however, I also love adding it to my other herbal teas and it just adds a fruity delicious taste to the tea. Besides the syrup, I have found that the tea form is one of the best ways to get elderberry in those little people who may not otherwise enjoy it.
“With elderberry’s anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, it makes sense that it can help treat sinus issues.
A sinus infection is a condition in which the cavities around the nasal passages become inflamed, and this antiviral herb has promise as a sinus infection natural remedy.
A study conducted by the Institute of Complementary Medicine’s Department of Internal Medicine at the University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland examined the use of a product called Sinupret, which contains elderberry extract.
The researchers used Sinupret to treat bacterial sinusitis along with an antibiotic (doxycycline or Vibramycin) and a decongestant.
Interestingly enough, those who took the combination did better compared to those who did not take Sinupret at all.”

I personally have used mullein most for my son with asthma, that is until I realized I had wild plants growing all over the place in my fields. Now we dry it and use our french press to make this tea when the kids are starting to deal with cold or flu symptoms.
#7 Garlic
During cold and flu season raw garlic just may become one of your best friends. Whether you are having sinus congestion or the onset of the flu, garlic is a way to get one of nature’s most powerful antibiotics in you. The power of plants always gets to me and knowing most of us have garlic at our fingertips it makes this plant medicine one of my favorites.
By subscribing to dearmark23.com and joining our health food community you will get instant access to a couple of my favorite ways to get raw garlic in myself and my children. We love the “Garlic Hot Lemonade” and the “Fermented Honey Garlic” the honey garlic is an intense mixture of garlic but, because of the honey and fermentation process, it takes the spice out of the garlic… This makes it easier to get into children, so it’s a win-win!
#8 Vitamin C Powder
Most of us know that to heal, we need to have a strong immune system.
Unfortunately, most Vitamin C supplements have a very small amount of actual Vitamin C, mixed in with a WHOLE lot of fillers. That being said, it took us a few years to find something that we trust to use and I will link that here.
I LOVE this one because it is 1100 mg of Vitamin C for each 1/4 tsp. It has 800 servings in it and is so easy to get down. Just put it in juice, tea, or lemon water and you never know it’s there!
